2014 Port Jefferson Maritime FestivalPort Jefferson, New York- In celebration of our rich maritime heritage, the Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson in partnership with the New York Marine Trade Association, presents the 3rd Annual Port Jefferson Boater’s Maritime Festival May 3-4, 2014.

The exciting festival will take place throughout the entire Village and to specifically showcase the Port Jefferson Harbor, one of the most popular deep water harbors on Long Island. Boaters appreciate the prime location with easy access, deep draft local shops, restaurants and entertainment just a short walk from the marina docks.

This two day festival will host the Port Jeff Boat Show with over 50 boats on display at one of the island’s only outdoor shows. Maritime related attractions, museums, and organizations will be present along with FREE open demos of kayaks, inflatable boats and paddle boards.

Joining the festival again this year is the Long Island Outdoor Communicator’s Network, an organization comprised of forty-five Long Island outdoor journalists, book authors, photographers, artists and videographers. Over a dozen professional outdoor communicators will present a photography exhibition and numerous educational seminars with a theme that focuses on areas of maritime and outdoor recreation. These presentations will include: educational nature beach walks; hands on fishing programs for children; casting and fly tying demonstrations; building fishing rods; how to make bucktail lures; retrieving dogs, kayak safety demonstrations, waterfowl education, duck boats and decoy exhibits; an art and photo exhibit; marine ecology talks and various fishing tips and techniques.

Other exhibitors will include the Long Island Maritime Museum, the Maritime Explorium, Riverhead Foundation, Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center. The festival features the Greater Port Jefferson Northern Brookhaven Arts Council artists on display, law enforcement vessels in the harbor and walk on tours of the Stony Brook Sea Wolf research boat. Coastal Steward beach cleanup, sailing demos and clam shucking and eating contests are among the exciting and interactive events taking place at the Port Jefferson Boater’s Maritime Festival. Food and drink at the Harbor Bistro food court will be offered by a half dozen local eateries and the Port Jeff Brewery. 1885 SCHOONER, THE PIONEER, COMES TO PORT JEFF HARBOR

Pioneer-logo-(1)The historic 1885 schooner, the Pioneer, will arrive in Port Jefferson offering daily sails throughout the 3rd Annual Boater’s Maritime Festival.
