Village-Hall-04_GlowatzwVillage Hall

Built four years after the Village was incorporated and came into existence, the Village of Port Jefferson’s Village Hall was constructed in 1967, on land purchased from Loper Brothers Lumber Corporation and members of the Loper family. The brick colonial style building on West Broadway has become a landmark for those traveling to the Village by car or by boat. Once you spot Village Hall traveling east on 25A you know you are entering the heart of the Village. Likewise, boaters often use Village Hall as a point of reference when entering Port Jefferson Harbor. Port Jefferson Village Hall houses the Clerk’s Office, The Mayor’s Office, The Village Administrator’s Office, Assessor’s Office, Village Justice Court, The Treasurer’s Office, and the Code Enforcement Bureau.

If you were born in the Village of Port Jefferson after 1963 the Clerk’s Office on the first floor of Village Hall would have a copy of your birth certificate. You can obtain a copy of your (or your child’s) birth certificate for a $10.00 fee, and it can be obtained while you wait. Death Certificates may also be attained for anyone who passed away in the Village. Every June the Village sends out its tax bills; if you wish to pay it in person, the Clerk’s Office is the place to do that. June is also the time the Village holds it election of members to the Village Board, and Village Justice, once again, a visit to Village Hall is required to vote and let your voice be heard! The clerk’s office also issues handicap-parking passes to Village residents. The Village Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day activities and administrative tasks associated with Village government.

On the second floor, you will find the Court, Treasurers, and Code Enforcement Offices. Village residents may obtain their Village Parking Stickers from the Court Clerk’s Office. Should you unfortunately receive a ticket that is answerable in the Village Justice Court you may pay your fine in the Court Clerk’s Office or you may plead your case to the Village Justice on court nights. On the first business Monday of each month the Village Mayor and Trustees, hold a public meeting in the second floor courtroom where concerns and matters of interest can be brought to the governing board’s attention.

The Treasurer’s Office is located to the rear of the Court Room. In addition to all Village Financial matters, this is where you will be able to join the Port Jefferson County Club. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Office is located on the second floor of Village Hall. Village Code Enforcement is not a police department but are additional “eyes and ears” of the Suffolk County Police Department. They are also charged with enforcing the Village Code and quality of life issues throughout the Village.
