The Setauket Yacht Club, the Village of Port Jefferson, Mather Hospital, the Port Jefferson Conservancy and the Lustgarten Foundation, created this community event to raise money in their fight against pancreatic cancer. The uniqueness of this official event to take place in our harbor appealed to the Mayor. Village employees compete against the staff and doctors of Mather Hospital in a race from the harbor to the sound and back on Saturday, September 12th, 2015.
This annual fundraiser is a friendly, yet competitive, sailboat race officiated by the Setauket Yacht Club. Club members graciously volunteer to be captains and first mates donating their boats and expertise. The volunteer sailors from PJ Village and Mather Hospital help crew boats that are divided into two fleets.
After the race, there is a Captains Party reception at Village Center in honor of the two teams, volunteers and spectators who exchange racing stories while enjoying refreshments and a hot meal.
Last year, Mather squeaked out a victory over the Village. Don’t miss this year’s Regatta, scheduled for September 12th for what is sure to be a strong challenge from the Village to take home the coveted cup.
