Founded in 2004, The Long Island Explorium is a special Children’s Science Museum housed in the beautiful historic Chandlery Building in Port Jefferson village by the harbor. The minute visitors enter our museum; they enter a world of possibilities, wonder, creativity, and joy.
Driven by the notion that learning is its own fun, the Long Island Explorium is tapping into the most current research in education to create exhibits and programs that offer kids the chance to find out just how much fun real learning is!

The museum’s programs are designed around playful and purposeful experimentation that includes sensory, kinesthetic, logical, spatial, artistic, linguistic, and emotional intelligence. Each exhibit invites children to confront interesting STEM challenges and design their unique responses. At seasonally changing exhibits, workshops, outdoor events, and our annually produced Maker Faire Long Island, children and their families engage with science, history, math, and art in a way that cultivates a deeper understanding of STEM, themselves, and the world.

Winter, spring, summer, and fall, there’s always something new at the Long Island Explorium.

Fall/Winter/Spring Hours: Saturday – Sunday 1-5 pm
Summer Hours: Wednesday – Sunday, 1-5 pm

Additional museum hours and schedules can be found by visiting the website, following on Social Media, or subscribing to our newsletter.

Historical Archive

Archive-Image
The Archive was established when the Village’s community center was built creating a dedicated space within the center where Port Jefferson’s historical records would be scanned and saved into a digital archive.

At the helm of this unprecented project and initiative is Village Historian, and volunteers from The Port Jefferson Harbor Education & Arts Conservancy and the public at large.

The Archive is open to the public and welcomes visitors by appointment to deposit historic files and photos to be added to the ever growing database of archived images and files, and to also search the archive database for images or files for projects, articles and or research. The Archive is a Village treasure and it can now be searched online by visiting the Village History page on this website.
